But I still support the young Taiwanese boy bringing the hallmarks of his hometown to the international stage and telling people proudly that what are the common life of his neighbors, families and friends.

Reflection

Jason Wu is one of my favorite designers until now, because I think his items can fit any occasions. What makes me surprised is that he learned English through fashion. Through this term’s study, I find that it is a real good way to learn a foreign language. Maybe I will introduce this way to my students in the future.

Reflection

From the model’s changing attires, I seem to see the fashion from my grandma’s time to my mom’s time and then to my time. However, I believe some iconic fashion items are timeless and go a long way. For example, the mini skirt from the1960s are still popular today.

Summary

Vera Wang was born in New York in 1949 as a Chinese descent. She has once dreamed to be a figure skater medalist in Olympic Game but failed to be a member of national team. Therefore, she gave up her dream as a figure skater. Then, she got a job as an editor at Vogue and worked for around 17 years. In 1987, she left Vogue and joined Ralph Lauren. At the age of 40, she finally became an independent bridal wear designer.

Reflection

The wedding gowns designed by Vera Wang are amazing! Before this class, I paid little attention to wedding gowns. However, when I have seen her beautiful works Helena, Mabel, Jessica and Katherine, what I will dress in my wedding comes into my mind. It is fun. At the end of the class, Mrs Liang mentioned the gossip of her items and divorces which made me think about that a perfect wedding gown do not mean a perfect marriage.

Radio 1: Sculpture or Fashion? The Haute Couture of Issey Miyake

Summary

The modern fashion house started in the 19th century and the Japanese designer Issey Miyake found his own studio (the Miyake Design Studio) in 1970s. Miyake improved the Delphos dress and made the dress looked like sculpture. In Cincinnat Art Museum, a lady introduced the minaret dress to audience which marked with pleating. He pioneered this pleating with polyester fabric, so it is permanently pleated.

Reflection

I believe that everyone would have at least one polo shirt in his/her wardrobe as it represents a casual life. Besides the classic shirts, I do appreciate the creator Ralph Lauren as he insists his dream, learns from his tough times and also pays back to charity when he gets rich.

Features of Polo shirts: made of knitted cloth; usually come with one single color; has a short collar; the front side is shorter than the behind; always has a small opening hem besides the shirt; the brand of Polo Ralph Lauren has two sizes: the big one represents extravagant and generosity and the small one represents exquisite and calm.

Video 1: Salvatore Ferragamo Shoe Museum

Summary

There are a big collection 10,000 shoes and many other items in Ferragamo museum. Each pair of shoes almost has its own story and belongs to a celebrity. Ferragamo created wearable and colorful shoes for Hollywood stars and made shoes no longer considered just as accessories.

Reflection

From the video, I find that most of Ferragamo shoes are designed for hot days. Strangely, boots do not appear in the museum. Females are often willing to wear a pair of boots to make them more charming and in Hollywood movies, actresses always can be seen walking with cool boots. Now that Ferragamo specializes in women’s shoes, maybe there should be more boots in its items.

I prefer the ballet flat than the high heels of Ferragamo. Although the high heels have much surface to modify with colors or icons, I doubt that if it is comfortable to wear such works of art.

    Guccio Gucci founded his company in Florence during the early nineteen-twenties and opened his first workshop there in 1921. His early woods was changed from simple leather satchel bags to luxury luggage. Later, Gucci’s three sons joined him and expanded the company.

    I don’t know why the new creative director of Gucci wants to have such a big change which makes new ones are no more like the old Gucci ones. The colorful one with Gucci ghost is cute for me but the black one with two red hearts and the pink one with raffish color just “remind” me perhaps they are unsuccessful counterfeits.

Summary

The video tells the life details about Chanel. She was abandoned by his father at the age of twelve and spent nearly seven years in an orphanage where she learned sewing. She used to sing in a cabaret for troops and called herself “Coco”, the name from a song “who’s seen Coco” that she often sang, and pretended that “Coco” was the nickname given by her father. Summary

The wife of Napoleon Ⅲ hired Louis Vuitton as her personal box maker which made Louis famous. After that, Louis founded his own fashion house and served for elites across Paris to make specialized trunks. The logo of LV, which was was created to prevent counterfeiting, was designed by Louis’ son George. Today, LV is an iconic luxury brand among the world’s most valuable and recognizable brands.

Reflection

Before this class, I paid little attention to my handbag or shoulder bag, and I have no LV item in my wardrobe. However, since I have recognized that a LV item may represent an elegant person who goes for an elegant life, I think if I have enough money one day, I will buy one to my mother and another one for myself.

    The brand Burberry has experienced a journey from gabardine or trenches designed for people who went to extreme places for warfare or flew across the world in order to break records to fashion items which are not only elegant but also practical.

Reflection:

    What makes Burberry a brand of high achievement? There are two answers arising in my mind. Firstly, Burberry gives a trench coat not merely function, but art layout too. Secondly, it is detail-concentration that changes general clothing into fashion items.
